PM appoints Shahzad Akbar as special assistant on accountability

ISLAMABAD: Former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) deputy prosecutor Mirza Shahzad Akbar was appointed as special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on accountability on Monday.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Secretariat of Pakistan.

The notification stated, “In terms of rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973 read with serial number 1A of Schedule-VA of the said rules, the prime minister has been pleased to appoint, with immediate effect,  Mirza Shahzad Akbar as special assistant to the prime minister on accountability, with the status of Minister of State.”

Mirza Shahzad Akbar is also a human rights lawyer, legal adviser and director of Foundation for Fundamental Rights, an Islamabad-based human rights organisation.

In 2017, Akbar was nominated for the Human Rights Tulip award, an award by the Dutch government, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for courageous human rights defenders who promote and support human rights in innovative ways.
