ISLAMABAD: Educationists have appreciated a citizen reporting mobile app and online platform “Taleem Do,” an education campaign launched by the Alif Ailaan.
The organisation has been working for the last five years to make sure that leaders understand the urgency of the education crisis. Shama Javed, a vice principal of a degree college, said that the appropriate use of mobile technology in education seems to enhance the opportunities of the individual as well as group and in cooperative or collaborative work.
She said that it was a very good initiative to promote education in the country and such an initiative should be taken by the government as well. Javed Iqbal, head of a Chemistry Department, said that there were some unfortunate areas where the children have no access to schools but through this mobile application, they could fight for education crises and address the education issues in a better way.
According to the latest Pakistan Education Statistics report, there are 22.8 million children who are still out of schools in Pakistan. Moreover, the national average score in subjects like mathematics and science is below 50 percent as per the National Assessment Test 2016 report. Every child deserves to be in school and have the quality of education.
“Do the government schools provide that chance to every child? The voice of the people can change this,” said Mosharraf Zaidi, the campaign director of the Alif Ailaan. Explaining the features of the application, Alif Ailaan’s head of digital media Imran Ghazali said that through this application, the people can report issues, read education-related stories, submit their pledges to support education reforms.
The application works both on Android and iOs and gives the user the option to choose Urdu or English as the language. The application has been developed for Alif Ailaan by DPL, an Islamabad-based software hub comprising of young developers. Ghazali said that Alif Ailaan would push the content received through this app on their website and social media networks.
In the upcoming general elections, Alif Ailaan hopes that the people will use this app to raise the demand for every single child receiving a high-quality education.
