The pro-freedom Kashmiri leaders in the held Valley have focused the issues like female foeticide, attracting tourists and social evils prevailing in the society.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) was first among the pro-freedom camp to call for sustained campaign against the female foeticide later both the factions of Hurriyat Conference followed the suit and called for eradication of moral waywardness prevalent in the Valley.
“Issue of female foeticide is linked with the vision of the freedom. It has to be taken seriously,” the JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik told Greater Kashmir.
Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani said the need to create awareness against the social evils was a necessity. “We need to maintain pure character,” he added.
“The agencies are luring our youth towards immoral activities and we need to remain cautious to protect our social fabric,” he said. “Imams can play a significant role in eradicating social evils from our society.” Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “These issues are linked with the future and existence of the Kashmiri nation.”
“We cannot remain aloof from these matters of vital importance. Being Mirwaiz it is my moral responsibility to make the nation aware about the implications of these problems in our society,” Mirwaiz said.
Pertinently, the decline in the sex ratio had triggered widespread concern in the Valley with different quarters calling for action to curb it.
According to the Census-2011 data the child sex ratio (0 to 6 years of age) has fallen from 941 in 2001 to 859 in 2011
