The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) official Twitter account on Wednesday retweeted a video of the newly-elected MPA Dr Imran Ali Shah apologising to a man he had slapped a day earlier.

The video was posted by Shah’s own account and showed him hugging a man identified as ‘Dawood’, and looking apologetic.

Referring to the incident, the MPA said he “never wanted to take the law in [his] hand (sic), however, it was in a spur of a moment that I momentarily lost my cool and reacted in a way that brought embarrassment to my position, my party and my supporters”.

Earlier PTI issued a show-cause notice to Imran after he was caught on video while slapping a man during a heated argument in the middle of a roach in Karachi.

The video that went viral on social media drew much ire, prompting the PTI MPA to clarify his position in a video message.

According to Dr Imran, he was driving by when he saw a man “repeatedly hitting the back of a poor man’s car”.

He then proceeded to ask the man to “apologise to the poor man”.

“The man I had called out abused me and pushed me,” claimed Dr Imran.

In the video, Dr Imran’s guards could be seen restricting the citizen from following him as he walked to his car and drove away.

The MPA also apologised in his video clarification.

In a tweet, PTI Karachi president Firdaus Shamim Naqvi said that the party had sent a show-cause notice to Dr Imran and would disclose the facts related to the matter after an internal party inquiry
