Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana resigns

• Rajwana says he is resuming his profession as a lawyer again

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Mohammad Rafique Rajwana resigned on Wednesday after serving at the post for more than three years.

The reasons behind Rajwana’s resignation remain unclear as he announced he would resume his legal career while speaking to the media at the Lahore High Court Bar Association.

He said that his party’s leadership had shown trust in him while appointing him the Punjab governor. He added that he did his best to uphold the trust reposed in him.

“The bar is my home and I have come back home today. I had started my professional life with a black coat, and I take it up once again today,” he added.

Rajwana was appointed as 36th Punjab governor on May 10, 2015, by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He had also served as senator from 1997 to 2002.

Earlier on July 28, Muhammad Zubair Umar announced that he was resigning from his position as the governor of Sindh.

Zubair has sent his resignation letter to President Mamnoon Hussain.

PML-N leaders had already predicted the development.

Zubair, who has also remained the chairman of Privatisation Commission, has already initiated the process of vacating Governor’s House.

Zubair, brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and finance minister-designate Asad Umar, had taken up the office as the 32nd Governor of Sindh in February of 2017.
