As unfortunate as it is, harassment is nothing new in the entertainment industry and female members, in particular, have to put up with a lot.

Just last week, actor Humaima Malick shared her experience of being relentlessly pursued by a fellow guest at a well-known hotel in Lahore. She accused the hotel management of giving out her personal information and details of her stay to the fellow guest.

Actor Hania Aamir who is currently on a promotion spree for her upcoming film, Parwaaz Hai Junoon, took to Twitter to share her experience of being harassed at the hands of “men disguised as fans.”

“Being a public figure does not mean that we are public property and meant to be harassed by men disguised as fans. How can one call themselves “a fan”; if they reciprocate our love with rewarding us embarrassment, discomfort and psychological trauma,” Hania wrote.

She continued, “We step out of our comfort zone to be with you (the fans), spend time with you and live some moments amongst you; but acts like these force us to reconsider and doubt our decision to meet fans in public places.”

Hania then called out the harassers saying that “it is because of such individuals that women are scared to step out of their homes, not work and live their lives in fear.”

She said that objectification and harassment of women is absolutely unacceptable and that people need to move beyond viewing women as “an object of desire.”

Hania concluded by saying, “if you come across a video of me swearing out of my mind, just know it’s a woman putting a disgusting man in his place,” and calling out her perpetrator, wrote, “And next time you want to make a move? Don’t hide in the crowd because I’ll show you what women are really made of!”
