The Women’s Action Forum (WAF) on Tuesday expressed concern over media reports of a day time attack on a student of the Punjab University (PU) Philosophy Department for sitting with his female class fellows and use of abusive language against female students by Islami Jamiat-e-Talba (IJT) activists.
The IJT then followed up with the night time hostel raid where firearms were used injuring several unsuspecting sleeping teachers, students and guards.
These actions have once again revealed the IJT’s true colours of extreme cowardice, hypocrisy and total lack of ethics and morality, which are its hallmarks, the WAF committee said. The WAF strongly condemned these consecutive acts of violence on the PU campus.
It also applauded the small group of women students who first stood up to the IJT violence and paved the way for a wider protest against party members. WAF said that IJT had a history of such acts of intimidation and ruthless violence.
