ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former lawmaker Hanif Abbasi has been reportedly facing breathing problem due to infected throat tonsils during his stay at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

On July 21, an anti-narcotics court sentenced Abbasi to life imprisonment and absolved seven others giving them ‘benefit of doubt’ in the ephedrine quota case. The verdict, which was announced after a prolonged delay of at least 12 hours, had also disqualified Abbasi from contesting the July 25 elections.

According to reports, his condition is very serious after a pollen allergy attack and he has been shifted to jail hospital.

Sources inside the jail hospital said that if proper treatment was not possible there, Abbasi could be shifted to any hospital outside. However, no decision has been taken yet on when and where he will be taken, they added.

Earlier, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and his son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar were moved from Adiala Jail to Islamabad’s PIMS over health concerns. Both the leaders were convicted and jailed in Avenfield corruption reference.
