Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon’s recent photo shoot for a magazine cover has invited backlash from fans and audiences for posing with a taxidermied giraffe, suspended in the air.
The shoot took place at Aynhoe Park in the United Kingdom which is well known for being filled with taxidermied animals. Taxidermy is the preserving of an animal’s body via mounting or stuffing, for the purpose of display or study. Animals are often, but not always, portrayed in a lifelike state.
While Kriti herself did not comment on the matter as yet, Cosmopolitan India, for whom the shoot was done, shared a picture of the actress on Instagram and wrote, “Aynhoe Park features taxidermy, hundreds of years old, most from museums. Taxidermy is the art of preserving an animal that died of natural causes, for academic purposes. The giraffe featured here is floating (not hanging, heavens no!) with balloons on its back. An art installation, in what is possibly one of the eclectic yet most majestic mansions in the world.”
The magazine further clarified their stance on animals saying, “Cosmo is obsessed with animals. We were, possibly, the first magazine in India to ban the featuring of fur, three years ago. No animals were harmed before, during, or after this shoot.”

However, the people were not buying any of it and continued to bash the magazine for their “disgusting and distasteful” shoot.
“So disturbing! This is no art or creativity it’s disgusting, Kriti Sanon and how do you support this? When actors in our industry are supporting and have been awarded for the work for animals via PETA look at you posing with an animal hanging,” wrote one Instagram user under the post.
Another user commented, “Disgusting and distasteful! Wrong in so many ways! This shows how behind our country is in terms of animal rights and welfare. Shame on you!”
One user called out Cosmopolitan for their “no animals were harmed during the shoot” comment.
“No animals were harmed yes,” they wrote, continuing, “But isn’t this image so distasteful and disturbing to look at? Along with the fact that this in no freaking way depicts woman empowerment? And would you be comfortable showcasing a dead human’s body like this? I’m shocked to see how huge brands like yourself fail to see the responsibility you hold towards the society!”
However, there were some who commented that it was not a big deal with a user writing, “Guys it’s a dead giraffe stuffed with artificial materials. Only the skin is preserved. I don’t know what everyone is mad about.”
