ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar Tuesday said that millions of rupees have been paid as a fee to the lawyers outside the country in the matters of international arbitration.
A three members bench of the Supreme Court (SC) presided over by CJP Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a suo motu case concerning the fee received by law officers from government organisations.
“This is the money of Pakistan, one-fourth of the money paid outside the country has been received,” he added.
The CJP said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had been informed about the matters of international arbitration when he came as prime minister. Lawyers have taken Rs5 million from the government organisations besides working as law officers.
Justice Nisar asked to return some money out of Rs5 million fee so that it could be used in the construction of dams.
Lawyer Hamid Khan informed the court that returning of the money can be looked into.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case while giving time to evolve a method for returning the money.
