KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday to withhold Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Faisal Vawda’s victory from NA-249 in response to a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s petition challenging the results.
The ECP has been directed to submit a response over the matter before August 10.
“There were massive irregularities and a vote recount should be ordered in the constituency,” read the petition.
“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Faisal Vawda only won from NA-249 owing to irregularities in the vote count process,” the petition added.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was previously asked by Shehbaz to conduct a recount in the constituency as well.
Faisal Vawda won the contest by a margin of approximately 700 votes.
