Commission seeks record of Saleem’s cell phone, e-mails

The judicial commission on the murder of senior journalist Saleem Shahzad on Monday directed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and mobile phone companies to preserve the data of the deceased’s cell phone and submit it on July 6.
The commission also directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to provide record of Shahzad’s e-mail accounts so that clues to his possible assassins could be traced.
Justice Saqib Nisar is heading the commission while the other members of the commission are Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmad, Inspector General of Police Islamabad Binyamin, Inspector General of Police Punjab Javed Iqbal and PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat.
Talking to reporters after the meeting of the commission in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry, the commission’s secretary, Taimour Azmat who is also federal information secretary, said all aspects linked to Saleem’s murder would be probed to trace his killers.
Taimour said the commission had also asked the federal and provincial governments to appoint law officers for legal assistance and coordination in the matter.
Speaking on the occasion, PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat expressed his satisfaction over the commission’s working and said the culprits would be taken to task.
