LAHORE: Advocate General of Punjab (AGP) Imtiaz Rasheed Siddiqui on Friday stepped down from his office.
According to a private TV channel, Imran Rasheed Siddiqui sent his resignation to the caretaker Minister for Law Raza Haider Rizvi which was accepted.
The outgoing Punjab advocate general, citing reasons for quitting, stated that the caretaker setup was meant to hold general elections and as the task was accomplished, therefore, there is no reason to stay in the office.
Before serving as the AGP, Advocate Siddiqui was appointed as a judge of the Lahore High Court by the PPP government during 2009. However, the Supreme Court had removed him along with many other judges for being appointed with the consultation of then de facto chief justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar, who had taken oath under the Nov 3, 2007 PCO promulgated by then president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf.
On June 20, the caretaker government had removed Asma Hamid as Advocate General of Punjab and 10 other law officers appointed by the Shehbaz Sharif-led PML-N government a few days before the expiry of its constitutional term.
