Work on printing, dispatch of ballot papers completed: ECP

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday said that the work on printing and dispatch of ballot papers has been completed.

Briefing media, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqub said all relevant election material has been dispatched to the Returning Officers (RO).

He said postal ballots will be thoroughly scrutinised after the elections in every constituency to stop their misuse.

ECP secretary said eight hundred thousand security personnel deployed for security of polling stations will completely follow the code of conduct.

He said security forces comprising 450,000 police personnel and 350,000 army people will provide security to the voters and polling staff for smooth conduct of elections.

Presiding Officers (PO) at the polling stations will be fully in-charge and police and military personnel will work under them, he said.

Babar Yaqub said ECP is thankful to Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan and Chief Justices of all four high courts to allow their judges to work as ROs.

He said provincial election commissioners have confirmed that CCTV cameras have been installed at all sensitive places.

Replying to a question,  ECP secretary said the Commission has issued notices to those candidates whose names were included in UN sanctions list to appear before the ECP on Monday.

He said ECP has given briefings to the international election observers regarding holding of free, fair and transparent election.

The ECP secretary said various steps have been taken to facilitate the voters in the election process.

Advertisements have been prepared on braille for people having problems of eyesight.

Replying to another question, he said ECP has written a letter to the caretaker chief ministers of all four provinces to take notice of the complaints, if any, of stopping of campaigns of any political party.
