Independent candidate arrested in Karachi over brawl

KARACHI: An independent candidate has been arrested by the police after he started a brawl with rival candidates on Friday night.

Jan Muhammad Rind who is contesting elections as an independent candidate from the PS-99 (Karachi East-I) constituency has been arrested by the police from the hospital where he was taken to after being injured.

Rind is contesting with ‘armoured tank’ as his electoral symbol.

According to reports, Rind entered into a brawl with another party candidate. On his Facebook page, the candidate alleged that the police let Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate go scot-free and arrested him.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Rind by the police. As many as 30 candidates are contesting from the constituency. Prominent among them are Haleem Adil Sheikh of the PTI, Syed Musadiq Shah (MQM-P), Shahabuddin (PPP), Zafar Ali (ANP), Muhammad Jamil Gill (PML-N), Muhammad Jamil Gill (Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal) and Muhammad Akram (Tehreek-e-Labbaik).
