LAHORE: Punjab caretaker government has admitted its mistake of removing Asma Hamid from the post of Punjab advocate general (AG) by withdrawing an earlier notification that removed Asma from her post and accepting her resignation instead.

According to a statement issued here, this was the result of a petition filed by members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Punjab Bar Council (PBC), who, in the petition, had challenged her illegal removal.

“Lahore High Court (LHC) ensured justice for the former advocate general by directing the respondents that it would be better if they found an amicable solution,” read the statement further.

LHCBA Secretary Hassan Iqbal Warraich, the petitioner, has said that Asma Hamid facilitated the matter with her categorical stance that she did not wish to serve as the chief law officer to a temporary setup that had seen it fit to remove her without notice.

“She had therefore chosen to resign in case the earlier illegal notification was withdrawn,” it said, adding that Dr Parvez Hassan and his associates ably represented Asma Hamid in court.
