CHK removes 100 illegal connections after reports of electricity theft

KARACHI: Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) management on Friday launched a crackdown on illegal electricity connection in order to stop power theft from the healthcare facility and removed 100 illegal connections during three-hour long operation.

The CHK administration, in collaboration with K-Electric and law enforcement agencies, launched a crackdown on illegal electricity connections in the premises of the hospital.

It was found that some employees of the hospital were supplying hospital’s electricity to nearby commercial markets and residents living in the adjoining areas through illegal connections under the patronage of certain corrupt officials of the CHK.

CHK Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Arif Niaz said action against illegal power theft had been initiated to stop this malpractice. He said action would also be taken against corrupt hospital employees who were supplying hospital electricity to outsiders for personal benefit.

He said the drive would help to save millions of rupees annually and that money would be utilized on the development and welfare of patients in this healthcare facility.

He said the removal of illegal electricity connection will help to control tripping and electricity fluctuation causing damage to costly medical equipment.

He said strict action would be taken against elements who were illegally supplying the electricity of the hospital to nearby medical stores, shops, homes and hotels for the last several years.
