ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday expressed disappointment over rejection by India of the United Nations (UN) report on gross human rights violations in Indian held Kashmir ( IHK) and said that it welcomes the Commission of Inquiry’s (COI) visit to Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and IHK.

Foreign Office (FO) Spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal responded to the Indian stance as the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) stood by its report on Kashmir.

The human rights body on Tuesday had dismissed the “numerous misrepresentations” by Indian authorities and media of its first-ever UN human rights report on Kashmir.

The Spokesman said that he was “deeply disappointed by India dismissing the report without examining it”.

He also said that India failed to address the very serious concerns raised by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) about the gross violations of human rights in IHK.

“The OHCHR has categorically denied any contact between the High Commissioner and Zafar Bangash,” FO Spokesman Faisal added.

He pointed that the Kashmir report prepared by the OHCHR quotes official Indian sources including members of the Indian Parliament, Indian Supreme Court and Indian MEA.

He further said that the OHCHR was disturbed by sustained Indian attempts to distract and divert focus from the human rights violations in the valley.

“It specifically points that the Kashmir report was about the human rights of millions of people in Kashmir,” the spokesman explained.
