An attempted attack on the residential quarters of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) was foiled on Friday when the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) recovered a bomb and defused it.
Additional Capital City Police Officer Iqbal Mahmood told the media that an unidentified caller had informed the police about the presence of a bomb at the JPMC. He said that a police party cordoned off the premises and called the BDS, which located and defused the bomb in good time.
Twenty kilogrammes of explosives, ball bearings, nuts and bolts, and pieces of iron were used to make the bomb, whereas two detonators were attached to the bomb and connected with a motorcycle battery, he added. Mahmood said that the material used in the bomb was the same kind that was used in the bombs with which the Pakistan Navy’s buses were attacked earlier this year.
Witnesses informed the media that the bomb recovered on Friday was planted in a specific part of the JPMC where people of the Shia sect offer prayers. It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh inspector general of police has announced cash reward for the citizen who informed the police about the bomb beforehand.
