BHC likely to get country’s first female chief justice

ISLAMABAD: Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar may become the first chief justice (CJ) of a high court in the country’s history after the retirement of incumbent Balochistan High Court (BHC) CJ Mohammad Noor Meskan­zai.

The incumbent CJ is due to retire on August 31 following which Justice Safdar is likely to be elevated to the post.

Earlier in 1982, Justice Safdar became the first female to become a civil judge in Balochistan.

Moreover, Justice Safdar is also a member of the three-judge special court which is hearing the case against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf for allegedly committing treason.
