Security beefed up in Peshawar ahead of elections

PESHAWAR: Ten more check posts have been established in different parts of the city in a bid to beef up the security ahead of the general elections, schooled for July 25.

Police are on high alert and fully prepared to tackle all kinds of situations, CCPO Qazi Jamil said on Sunday while briefing the media after a flag march, organised to show preparedness of the police force. The strength of the quick response units has been increased and put on red alert, he added.

Police department including the bomb-disposal unit (BDU), Special Combat Unit, Quick Response Force (QRF) and Elite Force Commandos participated in the flag march, which passed through different areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) capital

“We have established new check posts due to security threats and concerns and its aim is to prevent any terrorist attack. It is the duty of the general public to cooperate with the police force like they did in the past years,” said Jamil.

He said that police was on high alert and fully capable of handling any situation, urging general public to cooperate with them.

The CCPO was accompanied by SSP Operation Javed Iqbal and SPs and DSPs of all the concerned circles and divisions in the city.
