ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Rehman Malik on Saturday condemned Mastung blast and has ordered enhanced security for politicians.

Malik has sought a detailed briefing on recent terror incidents and the security arrangements from security agencies in July 19 meeting of the committee.

He said that the heart-wrenching incident in Mastung, which claimed many lives, is highly condemnable and a new terror wave has swept the county which is extremely worrisome and cannot be overlooked.

The senator further held that peace would remain elusive unless the Taliban and other terror outfits are crushed. “Afghanistan will have to dismantle training centres of Islamic State (IS) and Taliban operating on its soil.”

He also called upon the government to hold talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to bring back Khalid Kharasani. Elimination of terrorism is in the interest of the entire region including Pakistan and Afghanistan, he added.

Rehman Malik underlined that Pakistan meted out brotherly treatment to Afghanistan in hard times.

“Pakistan provided shelter to millions of Afghan refugees and it kept on extending moral and economic help to them,” he said, adding that it is a matter of regret that on the other side, Afghanistan has provided refuge to Taliban at the behest of India.

“Providing sanctuaries to murderers of thousands of Pakistanis by Afghanistan is an anti-Pakistan act,” he added.

The senator stated that the world has shed tears of blood over the martyrdom of hundreds in Balochistan.

He observed that IS-Taliban-RSS nexus has been forged against Pakistan due to efforts of RAW and the terror incidents in Pakistan are an abortive attempt to sabotage the elections.

He said that the whole nation is proud of its martyrs and is united in the war against terrorism.

The government will have to take extraordinary steps to hold the election in a peaceful manner, he urged. “Providing protection to all political leaders, voters, polling stations and polling staff is the responsibility of the caretaker government. Foolproof security should be extended to the politicians to whom threat alerts have been issued,” he demanded.
