GILGIT: The Gilgit Baltistan Order (GBO) 2018 was struck down by the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Supreme Appellate Court (SAC).

The GB Empowerment and Self-Governance Order (ESGO) 2009 was restored by the SAC.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Judge Rana Mohammad Shamid heard the petition which had been filed by GB Council Member Saeed Afzal.

Afzal had filed the plea under Article 61 of the ESGO.

Moreover, despite a stay order that the chief judge had given on April 24, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had still promulgated the new law.

The bench observed that the promulgation despite the stay order being in place was a violation of the law.
