HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the petition challenging the acceptance of Sindh’s former chief minister Murad Ali Shah’s nomination form to July 18.

During the hearing, the additional advocate general informed the court that the notice could not be served to the former chief minister, who is busy in the election campaign.

The petitioner  Jalal Mahmood, who heads Sindh United Party (SUP), contended that the former CM had submitted fake documents about his dual nationality in 2008 and 2013 general elections.

Mahmood, who is SUP’s candidate from Sehwan’s PS-80 in Jamshoro district from where the former CM is also contending, claimed that he only gave up his Canadian nationality in 2013. The petitioner referred to a Supreme Court (SC)of Pakistan order to argue that the former chief minister stands disqualified.

He asked the court to uphold the decision of the Returning Officer (RO) who had rejected former chief minister’s nomination on the same basis while setting aside the tribunal’s order.

The SHC had earlier put Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Provincial Election Commission (PEC) and the RO of PS-80 for on notice for July 12.
