Islamabad court still to decide on kitten’s death after three years

ISLAMABAD: A district court in Islamabad is yet to decide on a case registered three years ago over the alleged negligence of two veterinarians that led to the death of a kitten, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday.

Sundas Hoorain had taken her two-month old kitten to a veterinary clinic in November 2015 and was informed by staff that her pet was suffering from a fungal infection. She was asked to leave the pet with them for the day.

She discovered later that her pet had been shaved and seemed unwell but was not given a proper reason.

“Instead of showing compassion and care, Respondent No 3 [a vet at the clinic], was more concerned with defrauding the complainant and inducing the complainant to spend more money,” said the complainant.

The kitten was then taken to another clinic where veterinarian informed Hoorain that her pet was not suffering from fungal infection. Furthermore, the feline’s body temperature was well below normal.

While she was treated with life-saving drugs, the kitten died a couple of hours later.

Hoorain filed a complaint and sent a legal notice against Faisal Khan and Abid Abbasi, the two veterinarians over negligence. While the veterinarians refuted Hoorain’s complaints initially, the case has dragged on for almost three years due to a number of reasons such as witnesses having to travel abroad, change in legal representatives of the involved and multiple no-shows.
