–SC rejects appeals of PTI’s provincial assembly candidate Aftab Akbar and independent NA candidate Ghulam Abbas against disqualification

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected the appeals of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for Provincial Assembly (PA) PP-23 Chakwal, Sardar Aftab Akbar and independent candidate for National Assembly (NA) NA-64 Chakwal, Sardar Ghulam Abbas against their disqualification.

Both now stand disqualified from contesting the General Elections 2018.

During the course of hearing of the petitions, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that Sardar Ghulam Abbas “has no income tax record”.

Kamran Murtaza, counsel for Sardar Ghulam Abbas, replied, “As he has no income, therefore, he does not hold any income tax record.”

“If he has no income then how will he contest polls?” CJP Nisar asked.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked, “You have not shown your income.”

Abbas’ counsel replied, “All the property has been shown. This is his inherited property.”

CJP Nisar remarked, “Your client does not even have an NTN number.”

Kamran Murtaz said, “No one stands disqualified for want of NTN number.”

CJP Nisar remarked, “It is regretted that our public representatives hardly come up to the high standards.”

The court rejected the appeal plea and stated that the reasons will be revealed in the detailed verdict.

Abbas had filed appeal plea against the decision of a high court.
