LAHORE: Member of National Assembly and Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Haji Fazl-e-Karim tendered his resignation as the chairman of the Punjab Muttahida Ulema Board on Friday.
Fazal, who was chief of the Markazi Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan, was elected from Faisalabad on a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ticket in the February 2008 elections.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif appointed him as the Muttahida Ulema Board chairman and the government also allotted him an office at the Data Darbar compound, a security squad of 13 Elite Force personnel and two official vehicles.
However, all such facilities were being withdrawn after Fazl refused to cancel the proposed long march from Islamabad to Lahore.
