BAHAWALPUR:  Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto’s cavalcade was temporarily stopped by police in Uch Sharif due to “non-clearance of security”.

The chairman had to wait in his car until the clearance was received following which his entourage was allowed to move forward.

A handout by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that the ECP had taken notice of the incident.

Following the incident, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob sought the Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) and Punjab chief secretary (CS) for a report regarding the issue and that all political parties must be allowed to run their campaigns without any hindrance.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Muhammad Iqbal said that the PPP chairman’s cavalcade was stopped so that security arrangements could be made because the visit to the shrine had not been on his schedule earlier.
