LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed former batting maestro Javed Miandad as the batting consultant of the national team.
The PCB, instead of appointing a batting coach, has handed the job of consultancy to Miandad, who has worked with the national side three times as a coach in the past. PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt had rejected the idea of a batting coach for the team saying that at this level of the game players are selected based on their batting skills and thus do not need a batting coach. But now the PCB has made its director general Javed Miandad the batting consultant.
Miandad will most likely be accompanying the team on the tour of New Zealand in the third week of December. Pakistan will be playing two Test matches, six One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 matches in the upcoming tour. The three time former coach scored 8,832 runs in 124 Test matches and 7,381 runs in ODIs during his career.
