Although the Lahore High Court has allowed Dilbeer Kaur, the sister of death row prisoner Sarbajheet Singh, to meet his brother in Kotlakhpat Jail but no one seems interested in uniting a son of Pakistani soil Amjad Ali Mughal, detained in India, with his family. And no efforts are being made at official level to get him released
These views were expressed by Hameeda Begum, Amjad’s mother and Nadeem Ali, his brother, while talking to media here on Thursday. They said Amjad had been languishing in an Indian jail for last 18 years. Aged mother, with tears in her eyes, said she just wanted to see her child for once before her death.
Nadeem said that Amjad, with a valid Pakistani passport visa, was on his business tour to New Delhi in 1993 when the Indian authorities arrested him and later convicted him on espionage and terrorism charges. He said despite the fact that he (Amjad) has completed his jail term yet he is being kept detained in Tihar Jail. Amjad’s mother made a passionate appeal to PM Yousaf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh to work for his immediate release.
