SRINAGAR: The students of the Central University of Kashmir brushed aside the protocol for Indian national anthem and refused to stand up during an event in a matchless act of defiance.

The university was organising its first convocation on Wednesday and the event kicked off by playing the national anthem of India. The students, however, did not stand up, which is normally done as a show of respect.

A video of the surprising scenes was uploaded on social media, showing a single student following the protocol, while others looked by.

A few of the other Kashmiris dished in on the matter by stating that there was a complete discord between India and Kashmir and the latter had their own traditions and culture and the anthem did not belong to them.
