Nawaz, Maryam likely to return to Pakistan in a week: reports

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz has decided to return to Pakistan in a week, according to media reports on Monday.

The reports further stated that the Sharifs made the decision after consulting with senior leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) amid pressure by some party workers.

Further, Maryam is likely to return to Pakistan before Sharif.

The PML-N supremo and former first daughter have decided to return to the country to lead the party’s campaign ahead of the upcoming general elections of 2018.

However, before the flight back to his motherland, the PML-N supremo will meet Kulsoom Nawaz’s, Sharif’s ailing wife, doctors for a comprehensive discussion on her health, current condition, and progress.

On Sunday, Nawaz Sharif had hinted at further delaying his return to Pakistan, reasoning the deteriorating medical condition of his wife who’s under treatment at Harley Street Clinic.

“Recent events are very saddening. I am going through a rough phase,” he had admitted, adding that he would’ve returned to Pakistan if his wife was suffering only from a minor illness.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz had said that her and Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan depends on Kulsoom Nawaz’s condition, who has been on the ventilator since weeks.

On June 7, Nawaz and Maryam had sought a five-day exemption from appearance before accountability in the corruption references against the Sharif family.

On June 14, Nawaz and Maryam left for London to meet ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who has been under treatment for cancer since last year.

The former prime minister and his family members are facing three corruption references in the accountability court — Avenfield Properties, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments — in which they are accused of money laundering, tax evasion and hiding offshore assets
