ISLAMABAD: In a letter to the chief election commissioner, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday demanded an immediate removal of Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana from his position, terming it an essential step to ensure transparent polls.

PTI Central Senior Vice President Babar Awan wrote in his letter that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is responsible to hold free, impartial and transparent 2018 general elections.

He said the Punjab governor’s affiliation with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was causing an imbalance in the electoral atmosphere.

Awan noted that Governor Rajwana’s son, Asif Rajwana, was a PML-N nominee from Punjab Assembly constituency PP-214.

He lamented that the resources of Lahore’s Governor House were being wasted in favour of the former ruling party.

The PTI leader requested the chief election commissioner to take immediate notice of the matter.

Rajwana should be immediately dismissed for adopting behaviour in contrast with his post, he argued.
