LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) single bench referred a petition pertaining to whether the murderer of Zainab should be hanged publically to a division bench.
Earlier, Zainab’s father, Amin Ansari, had moved a petition and sought the public hanging of his daughter’s killer while Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq heard the case.
Justice Haq observed that since the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 was used to sentence the convict, a single bench could not rule on the matter.
Ansari also said that Section 22 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 allowed the government to proceed with the public hanging of a convict.
