RAWALPINDI: Three Nigerian nationals were arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing for using social media to allegedly commit online fraud.
FIA Cybercrime Wing Deputy Director Syed Shahid Hassan explained that the suspects initially contacted their victims through social media posing to be United States (US) generals posted in Kabul.
The suspects told the victims that they had opulent amounts of dollars and wanted to send them gifts as tokens of friendship, according to the deputy director.
Hassan also said that the victims were then asked to pay money laundering clearance certificate charges, parcel registration charges or customs clearance charges via Western Union or Easy Paisa.
The Cybercrime Wing deputy director added that the suspects were arrested by the FIA in a raid and digital media equipment was recovered from them.
