KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Ismail took a verbal shot at former Punjab chief minister (CM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s earlier remark that pertained to the tradition of “chewing paan” in Karachi.
A day earlier, the PML-N president had visited Karachi and said that he would transform the “paan chewing Karanchi” into Lahore.
The comment did not go down well with the residents and caused a storm on social media.
Ismail was quick to respond via a video message and said, “Sharif you came to Karachi today and the residents welcomed you but you called us Karanchiwalas and paanwalas.”
The PTI leader also said, “Eating paan is a part of our culture.”
“You are dreaming of winning in Karachi and mocking its people,” Ismail added.
The PTI leader, in his video message, further said, “There is no space for you to contest from Karachi, we will defeat you and Karachi rejects you.”
