After the disastrous spell of films at the box-office this Eid-ul-Fitr, one can only hope that the upcoming films salvage the situation.

Jawani Phir Nai Ani is easily one of the best Pakistani comedy films produced in recent times for its relatable and quintessentially Pakistani jokes and it was no surprise when the producers of the film announced a sequel. Fans couldn’t wait to watch their favourite foursome get into one sticky situation after another and the wait is (almost) over as the trailer for the film dropped on Monday generating a lot of excitement.

The first thought that came to my mind after watching the trailer was how glamourous and stylish it was. The film has been shot in stunning locales across Turkey, Dubai and Pakistan.

The trailer opens with Humayun Saeed, in a completely different avatar, jumping off a cliff as his friends Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudry and Fahad Mustafa try to stop him. The scene immediately brings back the first scene from the prequel in which we had Butt jumping off a high rise building.

From there the trailer is fast-paced as it introduces us to the different characters and takes us across the different countries in which it has been shot. While Sarwat Gillani and Uzma Khan were part of the original film along with Butt and Chaudary, JPNA 2 also features Kubra Khan, Mawra Hocane, Fahad Mustafa, Shahzad Noor as well as Indian actor Kanwaljit Singh.

Fahad Mustafa has been given plenty of screen time in the trailer, which indicates that the plot possibly revolves around a conflict between him and Saeed. The trailer also hints at the inclusion of the India-Pakistan narrative in the plot with Indian actor Kanwaljit Singh saying that everyone, except Pakistanis, welcome at his home.

The makers have also dropped in a few catchy one-liners in the trailer including their iconic “piece bara tait hai” from the original.

As mentioned earlier, the film has a whole load of glamour in it and all the actors look breathtakingly stylish – their wardrobes, makeup and hair all are on point.

Speaking exclusively to Pakistan Today, the assistant director of the film, Musaddiq Malik, said that the film has the elements of love, romance, friendship and betrayal all packed into a wholesome family entertainer.

“The India-Pakistan narrative has also been weaved humourously into the plot.”

He added that JPNA 2 will tickle your funnybones, sending you into peals of laughter.

“You’ll have to see it to believe it,” he laughed.

Directed by Nadeem Baig of Jawani Phir Nai Ani and Punjab Nai Jaungi fame, Jawani Phir Nai Ani 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas on Eid-ul-Azha.
