BANGKOK: Film sequels have created quite the hype over the years, especially in Bollywood.
Phir Hera Phir was loved by all Hera Pheri fans and the upcoming Hera Pheri 3 is creating quite a buzz as well. Even Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai were a quick create-a-fan following of their own. Much like these, one of Bollywood’s most celebrated films Mr India might have a sequel in the works too.
Speaking of the same, veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who played the lead in 1987’s original, said that there might be a possibility of a remake but he cannot say for sure.
Speaking from the green carpet of the 19th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards held in Bangkok on Sunday, Anil stated, “Every film has its own destiny and when it’s going to happen, it will happen.”
Earlier, there were talks that Anil and Sridevi would reunite for a Mr India follow up, directed by Shekhar Kapur.
However, the English Vinglish actor, who also happened to be Anil’s sister-in-law, passed away in earlier this year. Amrish Puri, who played the iconic villain, Mogambo, also passed away a few years ago.
Still short on words over Sridevi’s unfortunate demise, Anil said, “We will miss her and Puri jee but life goes on. We miss all of them. Yet, we will try our best to follow their legacy so we can make them proud. In order to do that, we need to make a good film that they would have appreciated.”
The 61-year-old, who has been part of the film industry for 35 years is now looking forward to his next project Fanney Khan. While his latest release Race 3 is crunching numbers at the box office, Anil spoke about the first look of Fanney Khan.
“People are showing a lot of love to the poster of the film. It is trending on social media in India and I’m looking forward to what Fanney Khan will bring.”
The film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao in titular roles and is slated for release on August 3.
