Over 100 posts remain vacant at JPMC

KARACHI: As many as 104 technician posts have been lying vacant at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) since last several years that has adversely affected the functioning of one of the largest tertiary care hospital, sources at JPMC told PPI on Monday.

There are 211 sanction posts of technicians at JPMC out of which 104 are lying vacant for seven years. The hospital administration has been compelled to run the affairs of this health facility with half strengthen. There are 21 sanctioned posts of principal technicians in grade-17 in JPMC and all are lying vacant.

Ten seats of chief technicians in grade-16 are lying vacant out of 32 actual approved posts. There are 32 sanctioned posts of senior technicians in grade-14 out of which 14 are lying vacant. The 20 posts of technicians in grade-12 are lying vacant out of total 42 approved seats.

There are 89 sanctioned posts of junior technicians in grade-9 out of which 45 are lying vacant for several years. The shortage of technical staff has badly affected the functioning of this health facility.

Similarly, about 700 posts of non-technical and support staff from grade-1 to grade-15 are lying vacant for several years.

Another administrative official of JPMC said that there are 2600 posts of employees in the hospital, including, professor, assistant professors, resident medical officers, doctor, paramedics, nurses, administrative and other categories out of which 1000 are lying vacant in hospital from last several years. The shortage of staff has badly affected the smooth functioning of this health facility.

The number of professors, assistant professors, doctors, nurses, premedical staff and others administrative had retired or left their jobs in the past seven years but the government still hasn’t filled these posts.

JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali said the status of the hospital is still not decided therefore no new hiring was done in a health facility for last several years. She said hospital administration is striving hard to improve patient care in available strengthen by outsourcing the departments.
