THATTA: A man who died eight years ago is now a contestant in the upcoming general elections from a seat in Thatta, media reports stated on Sunday.

According to documents, including a death certificate and national identity card, Haji Zakir Hussain Kalatri who had ‘passed away’ eight years ago, has now filed nomination papers for a provincial assembly seat as an independent candidate.

The death certificate has been verified by two witnesses who testified to his expiration. According to the media, the Haji was involved in a scam and named as a fraudster at a police station in Karachi’s North Nazimabad for selling a property on forged documentation.

The Haji faked his death to legally bail himself out of the case with the assistance of Thatta’s District Mirpur Bhoro’s union council. Haji Kalatri’s opponents while speaking to the media said that they would be taking the matter to court.

We will get him [Kalatri] disqualified,” said an opponent.
