A journalist was assaulted allegedly by police in Islamabad’s G-8 sector on Saturday. Waqar Kayani, who works for local and international newspapers, was on his way home when policemen stopped him in the G-8 Markaz. The policemen tortured him before driving away in a police van. Kayani received injuries on his face and back and was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences by rescue services.
The journalists have been a victim for years in Pakistan and after this incident the higher authorities must realise that they journalists cannot be tortured every now and then. The police inspector general should investigate the incident and proper guidelines should be set within the institution.
