ISLAMABAD: An event – Pakistan Day – was held in Paris as a joint initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and its French counterpart Campus France aimed at deepening cooperation between the higher education sector of Pakistan and France.

HEC Executive Director Dr Arshad Ali said that the commission was sending Pakistani scholars to leading French universities for master’s and doctorate degree programmes and deserving students of Balochistan were also being provided opportunities to receive higher education abroad.

In his address, Campus France Executive Director Thierry Valentin recalled the visit of a 20-member delegation of French universities to Pakistan last year and hoped that continuous exchange of delegations in the field of higher education would further cement cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador of France to Pakistan Marc Barety and Charge d’Affairs of Pakistan Amjad Aziz Qazi also spoke on the occasion and expressed full support of the two governments for strengthening cooperation in the field of education. Earlier, Pakistan Ambassador Moinul Haque hosted a dinner for the HEC delegation, also attended by senior French officials and scholars.

Dr Arshad Ali is leading a 14-member delegation of top 13 universities of Pakistan on a week-long visit to France. The delegation will visit Paris, Lyon and Grenoble to explore ways and means to further cement bilateral cooperation in the higher education sector.
