Australia’s number 10 seed Sam Stosur crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Hungary’s Melinda Czink on Tuesday.
Last year’s beaten French Open finalist became the highest seed to fall so far at the All England Club, where she has never got beyond the third round, as she was brushed aside in straight sets on Court 14.
Czink struck more winners and was far more effective at the net than Stosur, who only converted four out of 11 charges up the court.
Although Stosur converted the only break point she had, her Hungarian opponent fashioned five and converted three, making the difference in the London evening sunshine.
