–Shahid Sarwar was shot dead for not allowing a motorist to park in a no-parking spot
RAWALPINDI: The funeral prayers of a martyred traffic warden identified as Shahid Sarwar were offered here on Wednesday at Police Lines.
The traffic official was shot dead by a motorist on Tuesday evening just 15 minutes before Iftar for not allowing him to park the car in a no-parking spot.
On Wednesday, a large number of people including Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, Deputy Commissioner Talat Mahmood Gondal, City Police Officer Afzaal Kosar, Chief Traffic Officer Bilal Iftikhar, SSP (Operations) Muhammad Bin Ashraf, SSP (Investigation) Mir Abdullah, Potohar SP Syed Muhammad Ali, Traffic Headquarters DSP Tamoor Khan, Murree DSP Traffic Raja Khan Zaman, DSP Raja Tafoor besides several traffic officers attended the funeral prayers.
According to traffic police spokesman, the deceased traffic warden Shahid Sarwar was a resident of Kallar Syedan. He was the father of two and was recently reinstated into the traffic police force after having spent two years in Dubai. He was known by his comrades to be a highly dutiful and well-mannered man and was fasting when the incident occurred.
It merits mention that the incident also claimed the life of a passerby identified as Nisar, who was a resident of Gujranwala and worked as a tailor in Raja Bazar.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police spokesperson Imran Kazmi said that a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 302 and 324 of the PPC.
