MULTAN: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) winning candidate from the Lodhran by-election, Pir Iqbal Shah, jumped ship and joined the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
As per the details, Shah met former opponent Jahangir Tareen and received a party ticket for the upcoming polls. Earlier, the former MNA had parted ways with PML-N and the Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju group.
He had submitted his nomination papers from NA-161 as an independent candidate, the same constituency where Shah had defeated Ali Tareen in the Lodhran by-elections.
Shah told a private media outlet that promises were made after the recent victory in Lodhran but to no avail. He further added that his son Amir Iqbal Shah was also neglected by Kanju and the PML-N leadership, which was why they decided to join PTI.
Tareen welcomed Shah in the party after the departure of his son, Ali Tareen, who stepped down to continue his higher studies. A close competition is expected between the PML-N and PTI on two NA seats and three provincial seats in Lodhran.
