Rs 1.5b allocated for four women varsities in Punjab

The Punjab government is taking special measures for the welfare of women across the province, said MNA and Punjab Education Task Force Chairperson Saira Afzal Tarar.
Talking to a delegation of Women’s Welfare Society here Tuesday, she said Rs 10 billion had been allocated to complete various development schemes for the welfare of women. She disclosed the Punjab government had allocated Rs 1.5 billion for establishing four new women universities in Multan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Sialkot in the next fiscal year. She added the establishment of girls’ middle schools at union council and primary schools at village level were being ensured to provide educational facilities to female students at their doorsteps.
She assured the delegation that MA classes in Government Degree College for Women Hafizabad would be launched in next academic year. For this purpose, a postgraduate block had already been completed at the cost of Rs 23 million, she added.
WOMAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE: A woman jumped into a canal to end her life over some domestic dispute at village Phulo Charg Shah near Hafizabad.
According to details, Sadia wife of Abid Hussain was unhappy with her family members over domestic issues. On the day of the incident, she jumped into a canal to end her life. Some villagers rescued her and rushed to the district headquarters hospital from where she was referred to Lahore.

DCO SEEKS REPORT ON ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTION OF SHOPS: The Hafizabad DCO has sought a report about the unauthorised construction of shops on the market committee’s land overnight on the orders of the administrator.
Market Committee Deputy Administrator Haji Sana Ullah lodged a complaint that Market Committee Administrator Shoaib Ullah Tarar had built shops on the land owned by the market committee within a night and allotted these shops to his kith and kin, violating the rules and the merit policy of the Punjab government. The DCO appointed the district officer (coordination) as an inquiry officer and sought report within two days.
When asked, Shoaib Ullah Tarar told this scribe that the shops had been built with the approval of the special secretary Punjab and after fulfilling all the formalities.
