KESC: a failure

KESC is one public utility service provider which has led to deterioration in the life of Karachiites as opposed to providing them with a public service.

Due to a dispute between the management and 4500 of their employees, millions of citizens have lost the comforts of day and rest of the night. Because of the irregular supply of electricity, daily life has been paralysed. In the era of satellite and information technology, we have been pushed into the stone age.

Long hours (12 hours a day) of unannounced load shedding and breakdowns have made our daily lives very miserable. It seems that we are living in one of the worst cities of the world.

I am a college going student and appearing in FSC II annual examinations. My fellows and I are deeply suffering due to the constant electricity outage. Even when we go to our examination centre (Govt. Islamia College for women, Lines Area, Karachi), there is also no power available because of which we cannot fully concentrate on solving our papers.

We do not know very much about the current power crisis, but we have an idea that throughout the world, the public utility service institutions i.e. electricity, gas, transport and communication usually work under the government sector for providing basic needs to the citizen.

The responsibility of the public service system is not handed over to incompetent and profit-making companies like KESC. It is pertinent to mention here that KESC charges wilful amounts from their helpless consumers but has totally failed to supply the required electricity.

The public is not interested in nationalisation or privatisation politics; they only need quality of service and power supply without interruption against their precious money.

KESC is exhibiting an unprofessional attitude which is against the universal business principles. I would ask the concerned authorities to please intervene and solve this burning issue of Karachiites.
