Former federal law minister Dr Babar Awan has filed an application in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking the constitution of a judicial commission to examine the statement against him by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. The applicant requested the court to form a judicial commission to examine the records and witnesses pertaining the statement of Sanaullah and to enforce and protect his rights under Article 4 and 9 of the constitution.
He said the court’s intervention into the matter was necessary from another aspect too, as Sanaullah, who pronounced Awan’s killing valid, was also a part of the Judicial Commission which appoints judges to courts. Awan said if anything happened to his life, property or family, Sanaullah should be held responsible, adding that he had learnt that Shahbaz Sharif government in Punjab was desperate to arrest him on any false charge and then facilitate such an attack on his life either in jail, police station or court premises.
