KARACHI: Sindh home secretary and health secretary were asked by an accountability court to submit reports pertaining to the absence of doctors from their duties inside the Karachi Central Jail’s hospital.

Several prisoners visited hospitals outside the jail for treatment including Sharjeel Memom, according to a report submitted by prison authorities.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecution department law officers said, “On the pretext of lack of medical facilities at the jail’s hospital the defence lawyers get orders from the courts for medical check-up of the accused persons at the private or government-run hospitals outside the prison.”

They also said that this was one of the main cause of the delay in indictments.
