ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday terminated Mohammad Waqar Rana from his post of Islamabad additional attorney general (AAG).
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the president made use of Section 2 of the Central Law Officers Ordinance to fire Rana.
The now ex-AAG was appointed in September 2014 making the duration of his services a total of four years. He is a Harvard University graduate who also holds a Masters in Law. He had been working as an advocate for a decade before his appointment as AAG.
Rana has also served as a consultant to the attorney general for Pakistan (AGP).
Earlier in March, the Supreme Court (SC) had directed a 13-member committee including Rana to propose ways to trace and recover the country’s assets taken abroad by Pakistani citizens through illegal channels.
Furthermore, Rana has been hired for defending the federal government on various forums.
